HISTORY OF GIBSON COLOURS

Gibson's colour catalogue published in 1963 and 1966 does not mention the reference numbers of the paints, but their names of automotive colors, which is sufficient to trace their origins.

Gibson's selection shows a similar choice to Fender's, with nine of the 10 colours coming from GM and only one from Ford.

Their main inspiration for car colour was Oldsmobile, unlike Fender, who was inspired by Cadillac.

Here is a non-exhaustive list of Gibson shades available in nitrocellulose for your instrument !
